If you've read my article Gluten Reaction 101, you know that Glutamine is a powerful amino acid that is highly utilized in the GI tract, and can help to heal the lining of damaged intestines.
But did you also know that Glutamine has several other health benefits? Check these out!
*L-Glutamine can minimize breakdown of muscle
*Improves protein metabolism (which basically means it helps your body absorb protein and use it)
*Supports NEW muscle growth
*Supports a healthy immune system
*May possibly cure stomach ulcers
*Beneficial to those with IBS, Celiac, and Crohn's Disease
*Can aid in weight loss
I love L-Glutamine, and have switched from taking it in pill form to powder form. It's pretty much tasteless... you just mix the powder into some water and that's it! I got this kind at the Vitamin Shoppe for just a little over ten dollars.
Since I do a lot of cardio and some weight training, I only take about 5-7 grams per day. How much you should take depends on your weight and fitness level. With all supplements, ask your doctor before you begin taking L-Glutamine so you know which dose is right for you.
I hope you're all enjoying the end of summer and back-to-school time! More Gluten-Free recipes and reviews are coming soon, so stay tuned!
Happy Gluten-Free Week!
