Life at 35 is feeling a lot more like 25! Here are some tips on anti-aging that have worked for me, and can work for you.
1. Quality Vitamin A / Folate Vegetables.
Eat vegetables that are high in these powerhouse nutrients, and you will see noticeable improvements in your skin, hair, vision, energy level, and overall mood. A lot of women spend too much money on Vitamin A creams and topical anti-aging serums, when it's much more powerful to work from the inside out. My go-to veggies are YAMS, ASPARAGUS, and BEETS, and RED BELL PEPPERS. I eat these every week, if not daily. It's all about moderation - so just swap the normal russet potatoes for yams once in a while, and if you're too lazy to cook like me, eat asparagus like it's celery. I promise it's not that bad. And a little bit every day goes a long way in helping you feel amazing.
2. Stay (the hell) away from High Fructose Corn Syrup.
This is pretty much in all processed foods you're eating. There's one rule when it comes to HFCS -- DON'T!!! I am honestly convinced that it is the major cause of adult onset diabetes. Stop drinking any sodas that have it, breads (even some GF ones), cereal, sauces and salad dressings, and yes - even some CANNED VEGETABLES. Seriously?!?! I know. People actually put this in vegetables. It's disgraceful! STAY AWAY from it! Read labels, and if you see HFCS - just don't go there! Trader Joe's is my favorite place to get condiments that are free of this stuff. I love their mayo, mustard, ketchup, guac, salad dressings, etc. Fight against Monsanto (the devil) and stop eating ALL HFCS.
3. Grass-Fed Beef
I tell my piano kids "All Cows Eat Grass" ... but this is a LIE! (shhh...;). But for reals, some cows eat genetically modified corn, and you know how I feel about that. So - get the high quality grass fed beef. It's high in Beta Carotene and B-12, along with Iron and other nutrients that will help you glow from the inside out. It's one of the those products that's just worth the extra money to splurge on. So DO IT! You will thank me.
4. Weight Training
This is something that, like most things that are worth it in life - takes time. My brother who is a super-fit gym dude, has taught me some of the basics of weight training, and I can already see the improvements from it. Once you gain enough muscle, your body just starts to shed excess fat / calories easier... so pretty much the more toned you are, you will actually be able to eat more calories per day without gaining more weight. UM - I dunno about you, but I love eating - so that's enough motivation for me to keep up with the weights. Talk to a local fitness trainer and get on it. It will help keep your body tighter and so you age better.
5. Skin Care
I've noticed that my skin is actually BETTER lately because I'm using less products with less ingredients. Don't believe all the hype that you need a 12-step program for your face ;). All I use is Pure Ivory Soap and Neo Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser with my Clarisonic Brush. In addition, sleeping with 100% PURE EMU OIL on my face a couple times a week is fabulous. It works SO WELL.(You can get it at Vitamin World).
